Dr Bowers (Scopus=3): is a Senior academic and Research Fellow, working at the nexus of inclusive design and emergent technology. Her work focuses on developing innovative tools which level up the playing field for minority communities and people who are otherwise abled. Bowers is the PI for the UKRI-funded project "Audience of the Future", and previous positions include Senior Academic at York St John University and Lecturer at the research institute University Ulster in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Bowers is serving as a Senior Research Fellow in Ireland and as an International Research Fellow for Shanghai Open University (SOU, China). She attained a senior teaching fellowship with the Higher Education Academy in 2017. Bowers has been a Co-Investigator in the SENSE and TOUCH research groups focused on employing haptics to enable children to experience nature through digital technology. Bowers held a position on the Sensory Centre (SSC) board working with other professional keynote researchers – Professor Simon Heyho and Professor John Ravenscroft. Bowers works as an entrepreneurial academic consultant forging partnerships with external private creative industries partners to innovate pivotal extended reality capabilities designed to support individuals in the armed forces and veteran community experiencing PTSD. Bowers recently contributed to the OpenSTEM Laboratories Queens Award Challenge, presented at the House of Commons Feb 2025, contributing to a DCMS white paper, entitled CreaTech report.
