Our PhD students work alongside researchers investigating how advanced digital technologies can help people learn, collaborate, discover knowledge and address societal challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KMi is globally recognised for research in artificial intelligence, data science, cognitive science, educational multimedia, human-centred computing, human\u2013computer interaction, machine learning and semantic technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Studying for a PhD at KMi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PhD students become active members of KMi\u2019s research community. Support and development opportunities include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>guidance from an expert supervisory team;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>participation in research groups and collaborative projects;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>weekly research forums and seminars;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>peer learning and community-building activities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an annual KMi PhD student conference;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>research training and professional development; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>opportunities to present work at academic conferences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most KMi PhD students study full time and are based at The Open University\u2019s Walton Hall campus in Milton Keynes. Part-time or distance-learning research may also be possible where a suitable supervisor and working arrangement can be identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Studentships and research topics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KMi advertises available studentships and potential PhD research topics on its studentships website. Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the named supervisor for a topic before applying and to develop their research proposal with supervisory guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to apply<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications normally include the relevant application forms, a curriculum vitae, a covering letter and a research proposal.
