STEM Knowledge Media Institute

Explore study opportunities from STEM Knowledge Media Institute.

Postgraduate

The Knowledge Media Institute (KMi) is a research institute and does not directly offer taught postgraduate qualifications. The Open University does, however, provide flexible postgraduate study in areas closely connected with KMi’s research.

Relevant subjects include computing, artificial intelligence, cyber security, data management, software development, technology management and online learning. These can provide valuable preparation for professional development or subsequent doctoral research.

Postgraduate Computing

OU postgraduate computing qualifications allow students to develop their technical and professional knowledge while studying flexibly. Depending on the chosen qualification, students can explore areas such as information security, data management, project management and software development.

Qualifications are available at postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma and master’s degree level. Individual modules may also be studied separately.

Progressing to research

Students wishing to undertake original research in artificial intelligence, data science, educational technology, human-centred computing, machine learning or semantic technologies may be interested in doctoral study with KMi.

Doctoral study is different from a taught postgraduate qualification. PhD students develop and carry out an original research project with guidance from a supervisory team and participate in KMi’s wider research community.
